Message from H.E DANIEL BEKELE (PHD) Chief Commissioner of Ethiopian Human Rights Commission
Welcome to the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission web portal!!!

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission is an independent national human rights institution established in accordance with Article 55/14 of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Proclamation No. 210/2000. The objective of the commission shall be to educate the public be aware of human rights see to it that human rights are protected, respected and fully enforced as well as have the necessary measures taken where they are found to have been violated.

Based up on its establishing proclamation, the Commission is headed by a Chief Commissioner, a Deputy Chief Commissioner, a Commissioner heading the children and women Affairs and also eight branch office Commissioners.  The upper body of the Commission is Council of Commissioner; which is composed of 11 Commissioners.

About Us


To ensure that constitutional human rights and fundamental freedoms are well protected through human rights advocacy; counseling; monitoring; conducting researches in to the country's human rights situations; investigating into and addressing human rights violations ; as well as paying particular attention to vulnerable groups.


The commission will have become a strong institution capable of protecting constitutional human rights and fundamental freedoms by 2017.


To educate the people on and protect their rights; to see to it that such rights are enforced in their totality; investigate and have corrective measures taken where they are violated.
